15 Tips for Getting a Scholarship at Canadian Universities for Bangladeshi Students

Obtaining an undergraduate scholarship for studying at a Canadian university can be a competitive process, but it is certainly possible for Bangladeshi students to secure funding for their studies. Here are some steps that you can follow to increase your chances of getting a scholarship in Canada:

1) Start your search early: Begin looking for scholarship opportunities as soon as possible, as the competition for scholarships can be fierce.

2) Research your options: There are various types of scholarships available for international students in Canada, including merit-based scholarships, need-based scholarships, and scholarships specifically for students from certain countries or regions. Make sure to research the scholarships that are available at the universities you are interested in and see if you meet the eligibility criteria.

3) Meet the academic requirements: Many scholarships in Canada are awarded based on academic merit, so it is important to maintain high grades (GPA) and test scores (IELTS and/or SAT) in order to be competitive.

4) Demonstrate leadership and extracurricular activities: Scholarships are often given to students who have demonstrated leadership skills and have been involved in extracurricular activities. Start getting involved in clubs, sports teams, or other organizations in high school to build your leadership skills and show that you are a well-rounded student.

5) Write a strong personal statement: Most scholarship applications will require you to write a personal statement or essay. This is your opportunity to explain why you are a strong candidate for a scholarship and how receiving a scholarship would benefit you.

6) Seek help with the application process: Applying for scholarships can be a time-consuming and complex process, so don't be afraid to seek help if you need it. You can ask your teachers or a trusted mentor for assistance with the application process or people who have got scholarships.

7) Tailor your application to the scholarship: Customize your application to the specific scholarship you are applying for. Make sure to address all of the requirements and highlight any relevant experiences or achievements.

8) Follow the instructions carefully: Pay close attention to the application instructions and make sure to submit all required materials. Double-check your application for errors or omissions before submitting it.

9) Don't limit yourself to one or two scholarships: Apply to as many scholarship opportunities as you can, as this will increase your chances of receiving funding.

10) Be persistent: If you don't receive a scholarship the first time you apply, don't give up. Keep searching for and applying for scholarship opportunities until you find one that is a good fit for you.

11) Consider applying for a part-time job or assistantship: Many universities in Canada offer part-time jobs or assistantships to international students, which can help cover some of your living expenses while you study.

12) Look for external scholarship opportunities: In addition to the scholarships offered by universities, there are also many external organizations that offer scholarships to international students. Do some research to find these organizations and see if you are eligible to apply.

13) Consider applying to universities with lower tuition fees: Studying in Canada can be expensive, so applying to universities with lower tuition fees can help reduce your overall costs.

14) Look for scholarships that cover more than just tuition: Some scholarships cover additional expenses such as accommodation, books, and living expenses. Look for these types of scholarships as they can provide more comprehensive financial support.

15) Consider studying in a city or town: Studying in a city or town means you have more opportunities to get part-time or full-time jobs.

The cost of living can vary significantly depending on where you study in Canada. Research the cost of living in the cities you are considering to get a sense of what you can expect to pay for housing, food, and other expenses.

Dhaka University Is More Than a Brand

The University of Dhaka has become not only a place for the most meritorious students but also a brand in Bangladesh. The university has a big role in the creation of Bangladesh. This university always takes lead in almost every political, social and economic matters of Bangladesh. Foreign students also come to Bangladesh to study at the university.

The Significance of the University of Dhaka
The University of Dhaka, famously known as Dhaka University in Bangladesh, is the top-ranking university in Bangladesh and abroad. The short version of Dhaka University is DU. Founded on the first day of July 1921, the oldest university in Bangladesh creates human resources that hold top positions in every sector. They are the leaders in education as well as in corporate business.

The DU alumni include: Sheikh Mujibur Rahman (1st President and Father of the country); Dr Muhammad Younus (only Nobel prize winner in Bangladesh, 2006); Tajuddin Ahmad (1st Prime Minister of Bangladesh); Satyendra Nath Bose, FRS (known for his work on quantum statistics); Dr Muhammad Shahidullah (educator); Anisuzzaman (academic); Samson H. Chowdhury (former chairman of Square), Abdullah Abu Sayeed and so on. The ink of a pen can be emptied but the number of notable alumni members of the University of Dhaka will not be ended. So I have mentioned a few names. Being a student of this public research university means a huge network and more opportunities. The public and private jobs, scholarships, business opportunities are more when you study at the highest-ranking public institution in a country. The fame, quality and the alumni members keep the public university run with pride.

A Place of Revolution: The contribution of DU at the birth of Bangladesh
Student leaders of Dhaka University (DU) have contributed immensely to the creation of Pakistan (1947) and Bangladesh (1971). After the independence of Pakistan, the Bengali leaders have taken bold initiatives (language movement, six-point movement, 1969 Mass uprising etc.) to seek justice from the oppressive government Pakistan. They have led and participated in the movement so that the success must come. The university has emerged as the centre of the movements of the mass people.

When the operation searchlight began in 1971, Pakistani military targeted and raided at the University of Dhaka (main hub for all political struggles & subsequent movements) and its dormitories at first (1971 Dhaka University massacre). The Pakistani prime leaders and its military knew that most directions and movements of the former East Pakistan that went against them were coming from the teachers and students of the university.

After the nine-month of liberation war, a child was born in 1971. We have named the child as (officially) the People's Republic of Bangladesh. A developing country (Bangladesh) in South Asia is now trying to develop its condition from the bottomless basket to a developed nation. The University of Dhaka is always a part of the country.

All Materials of Bangladesh Studies and Emergence of Bangladesh Courses

The post has been written to collect and arrange all the relevant and useful information (updated) for the students who want to learn about Bangladesh and its economy, politics, society, environment, history. Courses like ‘Bangladesh Studies’ and the ‘History of the Emergence of Bangladesh’ are made compulsory by the University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC).

The Power of the Youth Fighting Against Covid 19

The Power of a Student Fighting Against Coronavirus

Mizanur Rahman Sarkar, a Bangladeshi youth studying at a Chinese university, has saved his scholarship money and bought 100 coronavirus testing kits to send to his motherland Bangladesh. The kits are expected to arrive in the country on March 26, 2020. Some may say that the number 100 (coronavirus testing kits) is very low compared to the population of the area but his contribution as a student and as a single person is very huge.

Bengali Language Movement before the Birth of Pakistan

Bengali Language Movement Even Before the Partition of India

There were debates and controversies about whether the state language of Pakistan would be Urdu or Bangla even before the creation of independent Pakistan. The people of the then East Pakistan (now present Bangladesh) never obey the oppressive and illogical demand of accepting Urdu as a sole state language of Pakistan.

A Teacher Who Sacrificed His Life for Students

“I am telling you - Don't open fire. My students will go back now."

"Your bullets will penetrate my heart first before you hit a student!"

--------------- A teacher.

Dr Mohammad Shamsuzzoha Sacrificed His Life for His Students
These sentences are not just a bunch of words. The truth is - the teacher was not limited to speech and actually took bullets for his students. This legendary teacher I am talking about martyr Dr Mohammad Shamsuzzoha, a former Proctor and professor from the University of Rajshahi, Bangladesh. Educators, teachers and students should follow the martyr teacher Shaheed Mohammad Shamsuzzoha.

At the age of commercialism, education has become a business product and teachers engage in politics (self-interest) and business, corrupting the noble profession. Selfless teachers are not easy to be found in today’s world.

Who is Mohammad Shamsuzzoha?
Shamsuzzoha obtained his BSc in Chemistry and MSc degree from the University of Dhaka. He also actively joined in the Language Movement during his university life. He also earned his PhD from Imperial College London in 1964. In 1961, he joined as a lecturer at the Department of Chemistry at Rajshahi University. In 1968, he got the proctor post at the same university.

Anti Ayub government and Shaheed Mohammad Shamsuzzoha
At the time of the mass movement (Gano Obhyuththan or Mass Upsurge) against the Ayub government (1968 - 1969), a student leader Asaduzzaman was killed (on 20 January 1969) by Pakistani forces in Dhaka. On February 15, Sergeant Zahurul Haque (an accused in the so-called Agartala Conspiracy Case) was killed in Dhaka Cantonment. So, the agitation spread across the country like fire and Rajshahi was not excluded. Students of Rajshahi University burst into protest due to the assassination of student leader Asaad and Sergeant Zahurul Haque.

Sacrifice and Martyrdom
On February 17, several students were injured as police launched a raid on the protest. On February 18, the students started protesting in front of the main gate of Rajshahi University. On the same day, the local administration imposed Section 144 on the highway adjacent to the University of Rajshahi. Angry students decided to violate Section 144 in the area where the army was deployed. Dr. Zoha tried to get his students back to the university dormitories. He urged the army officers to abstain from firing upon the students but the army shot the demonstrating students. Dr. Zoha was also wounded and carried to the hospital where he died. He sacrificed himself by taking bullets.

The brave death of Zoha added a new dimension to the anti-Ayub movement. Led by Moulana Abdul Hamid Khan Bhashani, the tide of protests spread throughout the country. The fall of the decade-long dictatorial regime of Field Marshal Mohammad Ayub Khan was quickened. The then Pakistani government had to withdraw the Agartala case and the unconditional release of all accused.

A teacher was martyred for the purpose of saving the life of the students. In commemoration of his highest sacrifice for the cause of the country, Shahid Zoha Dibos (Martyr Zoha Day) is observed on 18 February. A student hall was named as Shaheed Shamsuzzoha Hall in Rajshahi University to keep the memory of Zoha's memorable. But his history of heroism should not be confined within a certain boundary (Rajshahi University). Martyr Zoha Day should be observed in every educational institution in the country as a Teacher's Day. Shaheed Mohammad Shamsuzzoha gave his life for the country and we must remember him and his sacrifice in that way.

Md Shamsuzzoha, Bangladesh & the Globe
Professor Dr. Md. Shamsuzzoha is a source of pride and inspiration for the whole teacher community and educational institutions all over the world. By sacrificing his life at the time of Mass Upsurge for the country, Dr Zoha became the first martyred intellectual in the history of the Independence War. His contribution is different from other martyred intellectuals as he was the one who gave his life for the students making it rare not only in Bangladesh but also in the entire world.

How to Prepare for Scholarships & Higher Education Abroad

How to Prepare for Scholarships and Higher Studies Abroad? My Journey to the University Admission & Scholarship

After receiving my Honors and Master's degree in Social Welfare department from Dhaka University, I joined as a Research Assistant (RA) in Access to Information (A2I) program of ICT Division of Bangladesh government since 2015. Most of my friends are then preparing for the government job (BCS). However, some people knew that I never intended to be employed in a traditional govt job in Bangladesh. Since my father died in 2014, it was not possible for me to study at home to get a job like BCS and there was none in my family to support me financially.

My IELTS Experience for Scholarship & University Admission

My IELTS Experience to Let You Inform and Prepare for Higher Education with Scholarship

One of my grave mistakes in my life was wasting my valuable time as I did not prepare for the IELTS early. I could not apply for the admission in many universities. Most universities require English proficiency tests results to apply from non-native English speakers. So I could not apply for my higher studies at a full swing.

With my IELTS result, I have got 3 scholarships and so be ready! (You can jump to the last paragraph if you are in a hurry.)

International Students Education and Coronavirus

Coronavirus Outbreak in China & Outside China: Impacts on Foreign & Chinese Students’ Mobility

Chinese Coronavirus hampers international study across the world. For the educational purposes, thousands of international students study and reside in Wuhan, the capital of Hubei province of China. Due to the lockdown and restrictions in Wuhan, students from these colleges and universities face a shortage of foods and other important items necessary for their daily life.

Chinese authorities advised all to stay inside and avoid any contact with others to curb the spread of the deadly virus. Foreign students in the area are confined to student dormitories and trying to escape the coronavirus-hit city. International students have shown concerns and panicked. If this condition further deteriorates, the area will be a ghost town. Mohammad Samiul Ahsan, vice president of the Wuhan University International Students' Union is on-call nearly 24 hours a day and working to keep students and officers informed and calm their fears by dispelling rumours. Samiul is an international student from Bangladesh.

However, overseas students have to be extra careful as they may take the virus to their motherland. The USA and Japan started evacuating their people and other developed nations are also preparing for evacuations.

English proficiency exams (GRE, GMAT Test, TOEFL and IELTS) have been postponed in China and it will delay Chinese students’ studies abroad. Universities and colleges around the world are changing plans for new and returning Chinese students. In some cases, Chinese students who are already abroad have been recommended not to go home for holidays. Administrators of different universities have started to cancel exchange programs, conferences and sporting events in China. Moreover, some Chinese students from Wuhan are now unable to get to school in New Zealand. This Coronavirus forces many educational institutions to lower the enrollment of Chinese students. The virus changes the whole education system globally.

The governments and concern authorities around the globe should provide masks and other important items at a minimal price or freely to the hospitals and educational institutes to prevent the virus epidemic or eruption.

Growing Demand and Supply of Online Courses: What You Need To Know

In the rapidly changing world, industries need adjustment and a new way of a working system for its survival and earning more profit. That is why companies want to recruit smart employees who can manage many things with a short period of time.  However, our education system does not change quickly and universities are not producing student with such skills that the new era requires. In this case, students can upgrade themselves by completing online courses.

The Significance of Online Courses:
People are pursuing international master’s degrees online and many universities in the USA, Canada and Europe have this opportunity. The costs vary on the basis of the university and the subject. You may feel that the cost of online degrees is more than you can afford. But many online educational platforms like Edx, coursera offer free service but you cannot get their official certificate. To obtain an online certificate, you need to pay money. The cost may vary from $ 15 to $ 2500 but don’t be afraid. The money is not asked to be deposited all together and money is collected based on semesters and courses. Moreover, scholarships (following the prescribed rules) are given to the students who have difficulties finishing the online postgraduate courses. (I have achieved 2 scholarships to complete my online courses.)

Online courses offer multi-dimensionality in education and you can be global sitting in local. Without a visa and staying abroad, you get a foreign degree. There are a lot of online courses you find in the online platform. You can do online research for the course you need most.  You can look at the profiles of various successful corporate personalities on LinkedIn.

MBA, Master’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical Engineering, Public Health and so on.

The system is very flexible and you need to participate in classes and exams online. Assignments and homework are provided by teachers online. If you pass the exams and finish assignments on time, you can obtain a certificate.

Disadvantages or Limitation of Online Educational Courses:
The main problem is that you cannot interact with the teachers on campus and you don’t have lab facilities of the universities. Many experts believe, traditional education carries more value than online degrees.

To know more: please visit the following websites to understand their program and requirements and/or send e-mails to the university authorities if necessary. National ID, Passport, Graduation certificate may be asked to submit at the time of application. Some universities may conduct online oral tests via Skype.

Why You Should Donate More and Work for Social Welfare

Benefits of making the donation and working for the society

Why should I give my extra time for the social development free? Why should provide something to someone without my benefits? Giving someone does not reduce your wealth instead it helps you in various ways. Donation and voluntary work bring amazing benefits to your mind, body, and society.

Developing yourselves: Working in a voluntary organization help you develop your leadership capacities, communication skills, team works, and other skills.

For higher studies and/or getting a job: To get a good job, you will need some working experience. However, if you are a fresh graduate, you don’t have any practical work experience. Then how will you get experience while you are studying? Volunteering, internship, and freelance works help you in this regard.

Furthermore, working for the people increases chances to get you scholarships for the higher studies. Voluntary works prove that you are active and work for society. People like an active and industrious person.

Finding eternal peace: medical research has proved that you will get pleasure for helping others in need. For practical experience, you just give your warm clothes to a poor person, you definitely feel better. I can guarantee it. You will feel satisfied and be happier.

Removing depression/ anxiety: Voluntary work and charity definitely reduce mental disorder. To remove depression or anxiety or stress, you can work for social welfare. Moreover, it renders people improved self-esteem & self-worth. It helps you live a longer life.

Get rid of bad habits: if you are addicted to drugs and/ or masturbation, working with voluntary organizations helps you destroy these evil behaviours.

To protect the environment and the world: For our own survival, we need to save the world by cleaning the environment. There are several ways we can do it.

We can form groups or organizations to raise awareness and motivate people to protect the environment. Tree plantation is one of the initiatives which can be taken by anyone. Civil society groups and NGOs can pressure the government to implement environment-friendly policy. Environment-friendly and informed governments can pressurize the United Nations (UN) to take broad initiatives for the world environment.

Promoting Generosity in your kids: When your children observe you to give money to some people or organizations, they naturally adopt a donating-mindset. This mindset helps your kids to be good and gentle people.

Tax Reduction:  You can write off charity on your tax return form and get a certain amount of tax rebate. Some restrictions and conditions do apply. A good number of celebrities and businessmen make a donation for this purpose.

Getting reward (Sawāb): Both Quran and hadith ensure that givers (donors) will receive Allah’s rewards both in this world and in the life hereafter. Giving donation does not reduce our wealth instead almighty Allah expands it. The philanthropists and charitable persons will be awarded highly.

Sadaqah Jaariyah (an ‘ongoing charity’) is an amazing concept for Muslim people. Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), said that “when a man dies, his deeds come to an end except three: beneficial knowledge, Sadaqah Jaariyah and a child who prays for him/ her”.

An Introduction to Bangladesh

Bangladesh, born in 1971, is a lower-middle-income country. Officially known as the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, it is the world's 3rd largest Muslim majority country.

Location: Located in South Asia, Bangladesh has borders only 2 countries: India (West-North-East) and Myanmar (South-East). The Bay of Bengal is located on the south side of Bangladesh.

Climate: Straddling the Tropic of Cancer (the Northern Tropic), the country has a tropical monsoon climate. Due to climate change, the weather in Bangladesh is not friendly. Bangladesh has now 3 seasons: long summer (excessive heat), short winter and unpredictable rainy season.

Rivers: The country is blessed with so many rivers. Bangladesh, most famously known as a riverine country, has about 700 rivers including tributaries. Jamuna, Padma, and Meghna are important rivers in this country. Though most influential civilizations were built on the banks of rivers, our rivers are not getting enough attention for survival. Rivers in our country are drying up. Regular economic activities (agriculture, industrial activities) are regularly affected. Some industries like cement, ship breaking need rivers and river confections for their smooth business.

Furthermore, most rivers originate from the Himalayan valleys and across India, Nepal, and Bhutan and then travel across the country before falling down to the Bay of Bengal. Fifty-eight major rivers of Bangladesh (54 rivers with India) across the country either from India or from Myanmar. But it is a matter of great regret that India use and abuse those rivers and we get less water. India reroutes water whenever she wants, reducing the water flow in Bangladeshi rivers in the summer. In the rainy seasons or at the time of the flood, India let us sink underwater.

Natural Recourses: The country does not have many natural resources but it possesses natural gas, coal, arable land, timber and so on. The larger part of our natural gas is found in the eastern part of Bangladesh. A total of 27 natural gas fields have been found in this country. The quality of natural gas and coal is good.

Do I Have to Take Nude Picture or Videos?

There are some issues that make me confused? There are so many news, reports, incidents of blackmailing girls, harassing girls with their private pictures or videos. These things are repeatedly repeated! And they continually continue:

1)    sharing nude contents on social media,
2)    taking and keeping naked pictures & videos on smartphone/ computer,
3)    sending naked pictures to the boyfriend

The price of common sense –

>>> What do you think of your boyfriend? Is he an angel? He will show your private pictures or videos to their friends. He may keep those contents to blackmail you in the future. He can force you to give him money or other things you do not want to do. So you have to be careful. Or your boyfriend can be changed! Haven’t you heard about the incident of actress Prova?

>>> Your husband or partner may be faithful to you but their phone/ laptop can be stolen or hacked. The thief or hacker can leak your pictures. That is the reason you must not keep your private pictures and videos on your mobile phone. You may sell your old phone but there are some software that can recollect your deleted photos.

>>> Mobile apps take your content from your mobile and you will never know. We accept apps’ terms and conditions blindly when we install any application on our smartphone.

>>> Don't go nude in skype/ IMO chats because it can be recorded. Notorious people are everywhere to upload your videos or pictures on indecent websites.

We have to think about it. One silly mistake can ruin our jolly life.
